One of our Inspire More Travel advisors recently had the pleasure of experiencing the magic of Arenal Springs Resort & Spa, tucked into the lush jungle landscape of La Fortuna, Costa Rica—and we couldn’t wait to share why this resort should be at the top of your travel list, especially if you’re looking for a family-friendly escape packed with adventure, nature, and comfort.
Location, Location, Volcano
Arenal Springs is ideally located just five miles from La Fortuna town, making it close enough to enjoy local shops and restaurants, but far enough to feel like you’re immersed in the tranquility of the rainforest. The star of the show, Arenal Volcano, looms in the distance, offering jaw-dropping views from nearly every corner of the resort. This is a true “wow” factor, especially for kids (and adults!) who’ve never seen a volcano up close.
With the Arenal Volcano National Park just minutes away, adventure is always within reach—but the resort itself is so peaceful and inviting that you might not want to leave.
Comfortable Suites Surrounded by Nature
The resort features 87 Junior Suites and six Master Suites, all of which are surrounded by vibrant gardens, tropical flowers, and a symphony of birdsong. Our advisor’s family stayed in two adjoining Junior Suites, a perfect setup for families who want to stay close but still enjoy some privacy.
Each suite offers either a king-size bed or two double beds, and all rooms feature private terraces with rocking chairs and unobstructed views of the volcano—perfect for sipping your morning coffee while toucans fly by. Inside, the rooms are spacious, clean, and air-conditioned, with thoughtful touches like a mini-bar, coffee maker, and beautiful Costa Rican art.
On-Site Relaxation and Fun
Whether your family is in the mood for total relaxation or nonstop activity, Arenal Springs has it all. The two large swimming pools were a hit with the kids, while the adults found their own slice of paradise in the natural thermal river and hot springs located right on the property.
The hot springs are especially magical in the evening. The mineral-rich waters are warm, calming, and surrounded by glowing lanterns and lush greenery—like something straight out of a dream. The resort also offers a yoga deck, so you can start your day grounded in serenity before heading out to explore.
You’ll find beautiful grounds with lots to do at Arenal Springs Resort!
Dining That Pleases Every Palate
When it comes to food, Arenal Springs hits the mark for both picky eaters and adventurous foodies. There are multiple dining options on-site, including a buffet-style restaurant, a sushi bar, and a delightful Italian restaurant serving handmade pastas and wood-fired pizzas.
One evening, our advisor’s family opted for the à la carte menu and enjoyed a mix of local Costa Rican dishes and international cuisine. The fresh tropical fruits, grilled meats, and rich gallo pinto (a traditional rice and beans dish) were delicious, and the kids gave a big thumbs-up to the dessert menu!
Adventure Awaits Beyond the Resort
Of course, no visit to La Fortuna is complete without a little adrenaline—and the area offers some of the best eco-adventures in Costa Rica. The resort’s on-site tour desk made planning a breeze, helping to arrange guided tours and transportation for local excursions.
Here are a few standout experiences from our advisor’s trip:
Papa’s Place Night Tour
This was a family favorite! At Papa’s Place, guests embark on a nighttime jungle tour, where the rainforest comes alive with wildlife. Flashlights in hand, the group spotted frogs, bats, sloths, and even a tarantula or two! The guides were fantastic with kids, making it a fun and educational experience.
Sky Adventures – Ziplining and Hanging Bridges
Thrill-seekers will love Sky Adventures, a short drive from the resort. Soar over the treetops on ziplines with stunning views of Arenal Volcano and Lake Arenal. For those who prefer to keep their feet (mostly) on the ground, the hanging bridges hike offers a gentler but equally awe-inspiring journey through the cloud forest canopy.
Authentic Costa Rican Cooking Class
A hands-on cooking class was a unique highlight, allowing the whole family to learn how to make Costa Rican favorites like tortillas, plantains, and arroz con pollo. It was interactive, tasty, and a great way to connect with the local culture.
La Fortuna Waterfall and Rio Celeste
Both waterfalls are must-sees. La Fortuna Waterfall is just a short drive and a steep hike down—but the views (and the swim at the base!) are more than worth it. Rio Celeste, with its bright blue water and mysterious origin, is a longer day trip, but offers fantastic hiking and tubing options.
River Tubing
Speaking of tubing, the nearby Rio Arenal offers gentle rapids and beautiful scenery, making it a great choice for families looking for some water-based fun.
Hanging Bridges, ziplining and tubing are just a few of the adventures awaiting you in Costa Rica!
