A Swiss Train Journey That Stole My Heart

Jun 5, 2025

Traveling through Switzerland by train felt like flipping through the pages of the most beautiful picture book. Each stop held its own charm, with flavors, views, and experiences that made my heart sing. Here is how it all unfolded.

Mt. Rigi and Alp Chäserenholz

Our journey began with the breathtaking ride to Mt. Rigi, lovingly known as the Queen of the Mountains. We stepped off into a world of fresh Alpine air, green meadows, and peaceful trails. A special stop at Alp Chäserenholz gave us a taste of authentic Swiss life with a cheese tasting that was as rustic as it was delicious. The cheeses were made right there on the mountain, and each bite told a story of tradition and craft.

That night, we stayed at Hotel Rigi Kaltbad, a serene escape nestled into the mountainside. With spa access included, I found myself floating in thermal waters, watching clouds drift past the peaks. It was the perfect mix of tranquility and indulgence, and I could not have asked for a more relaxing start to the adventure.

Grindelwald and Jungfraujoch – Top of Europe

Grindelwald is straight out of a storybook, with its cozy chalets and snow-dusted peaks all around. From the village, we took the train up to Jungfraujoch, also known as the Top of Europe. Let me tell you, this place lives up to its name. It is the highest railway station in Europe and once you step off the train, you are surrounded by an icy wonderland.

We explored the Ice Palace, stood in awe on the observation deck, and marveled at the Aletsch Glacier stretching out before us. The crisp air, the shimmering snow, and the sheer scale of the Alps took my breath away. This was more than a scenic stop. It was an experience that made me feel small in the best possible way, standing at the top of the world.

GoldenPass Train from Montreux to Interlaken

There are train rides, and then there are experiences like the GoldenPass Line. This legendary route between Montreux and Interlaken gave us front-row seats to some of the most jaw-dropping scenery I have ever seen. Giant windows let us soak in every curve of the mountain, every shimmering lake, and every charming little village we passed. It felt less like transportation and more like a moving theater with nature as the star. From the vineyards of Montreux to the adventure hub of Interlaken, it is one of those travel moments that lingers in your memory long after you have unpacked your suitcase.

Glacier 3000 Experience

If you are craving snow, views, and a little bit of adrenaline, Glacier 3000 delivers all of it with flair. We took a scenic cable car ride up to a world of endless white, and suddenly it felt like we were standing on top of a snow-covered moon. The highlight for me was the Peak Walk by Tissot, a suspension bridge that connects two mountain peaks. Yes, it is a little nerve-wracking, but even more so exhilarating during a snow storm!

Even in summer, Glacier 3000 is snowy and spectacular. There is something so refreshing about being surrounded by pure white snow. It felt like a different world entirely. I left with frozen cheeks and a very full heart.

From panorama’s to peaks- Switzerland has it all!

Montreux Delights – Grand Hôtel Suisse Majestic, Chocolate Train, and More

Montreux was pure magic from the moment we arrived. We stayed at the Grand Hôtel Suisse Majestic, which feels like stepping into a glamorous past. With its Belle Époque charm and unbeatable location right across from Lake Geneva, I was smitten. One of the most delightful parts of this stop was riding the Chocolate Train, which takes you on a sweet journey through the region, complete with a visit to a chocolate factory and a cheese dairy.

We also explored the iconic Chillon Castle, an ancient fortress perched on the edge of the lake. Music lovers will adore the Freddie Mercury statue on the waterfront, and for film fans, Chaplin’s World is a must. It offers a heartwarming look into the life of Charlie Chaplin and is beautifully curated. Montreux surprised me with its mix of elegance, fun, and cultural richness. Every corner held something new to love.

Lavaux Wine Country – Domaine de Bovy

To wrap things up, we visited Lavaux, one of the most beautiful wine regions I have ever seen. The vineyards here are terraced into the hillsides, cascading down toward the lake like rows of green ribbon. We spent time at Domaine de Bovy, a family-owned winery with heart, history, and seriously good wine. We sipped local blends while enjoying views that stretched out to the French Alps across Lake Geneva.

Lavaux is a place where time slows down. The rhythm of the vines, the lapping of the lake, and the laughter shared over wine make it a true gem. It was the perfect place to reflect on the journey and toast to the memories made. If you are looking for something delicious, scenic, and soul-soothing, Lavaux delivers every time.
